Fat of any kind can cause obesity if you eat too much though some fat is needed in a healthy diet. There are better fats known as Unsaturated fat, not so good fats, and bad fats called Saturated fat . Olive oil and Rape seed oil are healthy fats. Other vegetable oils are also generally healthy in varying ways.
Animal fats should be limited. Trans fats, or hydrogenated fats, found in margarine and shortening should be avoided entirely, but good food, good cooking, and good health require fats. Fat is necessary for heat transfer in cooking and it adds flavour. A few plant based fats like palm oil and coconut oil are saturated and best limited or avoided.
We shouldn't eat too much of any fat but we should eat mainly unsaturated fat.
