Now, everyone is talking about the Nordic diet, which was started in part by Claus Meyer, owner of the Danish restaurant Noma, which has been called the best in the world. Meyer worked closely with obesity scientist Arne Astrup. Their 26-week study included a group of overweight subjects who all lost an average of 6.8 pounds over twelve weeks, which is far more than people lose on standard portion control diets.

Quite a lot of the Nordic diet boils down to common sense. Raw vegetables and antioxidant-rich berries, like blueberries, are staples of the diet. In addition, fish is a large part of Nordic cooking and many fish …

Marketing Technique Attracts Kids to Fruit

It's no secret that school cafeterias are not exactly the place to go for healthy food--of course, they offer healthy food, but left to their own devices, kids will usually choose ice cream, burgers, and fries over fruit, vegetables and whole grains.

However, it looks like a simple no-cost marketing technique could transform the way kids eat in their cafeterias, especially in regards to fruit. The Cornell Center for Behavioral Economics decided to change things up in three school cafeterias--instead of placing fruits in stainless steel bins behind sneeze guards, they placed fruits in colorful, attractive bowls near the register. This little trick increased the children's fruit purchase by 103% in the cafeterias of the three schools that pa…

Should You Buy Into the Coconut Water Craze?

Lately everyone's been talking about about coconut water, the newest and trendiest way to stay hydrated. It is said to help with a multitude of things, from weight loss to improving the hair, skin and nails; but have you wondered how many of the magical elixir claims are actually true?

Nutrition Diva recently blogged about taking a closer look at coconut water and their findings just might bring it back down to earth.
